First interoperability arrangements between European drought resources accomplished!
Drought monitoring and assessment in Europe is enhanced by making drought data accessible from different sources and spatial resolutions. In this context, 'making data accessible' means to provide a way to search for drought-relevant information and to provide access to relevant drought data services.
The drought metadata catalogue established within EuroGEOSS is a collection of resources for drought monitoring (visit the catalogue). The corresponding drought data services can be directly accessed through the metadata catalogue.
The European Drought Observatory (EDO) under development at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) acts as the central point for accessing drought data services in Europe. In the EDO map server drought information from international, national, and regional drought observatories is made available together with continental overview information as provided by JRC (Follow this link).
The achieved combination of the EuroGEOSS drought metadata catalogue and the EDO map server now allows for direct discovery and display of existing drought resources. In a first step, drought information from Spain and South-East Europe is made accessible through EDO. |
